Welcome to the official website of

ChriS Humphreys
(Also known as C.C.)

AUTHOR. ACTOR. SWORDSMAN.

Hello All! Thanks for coming to my new site. Click any of the links above to find my books and how to get them.

And now for BREAKING NEWS…
My new novel is out on June 2nd 2026

"No one writes spies, adventure and heart-pounding history like C.C. Humphreys. His research dazzles, his storytelling immerses. As with every one of his novels, this World War II tale of courage, chaos and aching romance will leave you breathless." —Genevieve Graham, internationally bestselling author of The Chambermaid's Key

The Alice Network meets The Nightingale in this romantic and suspenseful World War Two novel about Eve, a female spy who must push herself to her very limits to save herself and everything she holds dear—from nationally bestselling author C.C. Humphreys.

It's 1939, and Stockholm is a sea of spies. Yet Eve Sinclair couldn't care less. Nineteen years old, beautiful, born in Montreal into privilege and educated to do little more than make a good marriage, she appears to have succeeded when she weds handsome diplomat Richard Spence and follows him to Stockholm. But, like so much in this city, Eve will discover that her marriage is not what it seems. Raised to expect only one life, she soon finds herself thrust into another one entirely—dark, corrupt and very, very dangerous.

If Eve is going to survive her perilous personal circumstances and the world war raging around her, she must learn certain skills—and swiftly. She will discover a core of steel buried deep within her, as well as how to use that steel to forge a career . . . as a spy. Her talents—and her drive for revenge—will bring her across Europe and demand inconceivable sacrifices from her.

The Double Life of Eve Sinclair is much more than a war story; it’s a tale of love, passion, grit and the resilience of the human spirit. And it’s the story of one woman who discovers she has more strength than she ever could have imagined.

"C.C. Humphreys has penned a terrifically entertaining read: The Nightingale meets The Night Manager. Hopping with adventurous ease from Montreal to Stockholm to Lisbon, The Double Life of Eve Sinclair is a globe-trotting spy thriller to delight in!" —Kate Quinn, the New York Times bestselling author of The Alice Network and The Astral Library

"From Stockholm to Lisbon, the Highlands of Scotland, and finally Norway—and the hidden paths of inner strength that will lead Eve to herself, and to her final choice. It’s a terrific read!" —Diana Gabaldon, the New York Times bestselling author of the Outlander series

MORE BREAKING NEWS…
Having self-published this novel five years ago, at the London Book Fair in 2025 a UK publisher were pitched it by my agent - and decided to publish it!

Picture
That's right - London publisher Allison and Busby not only wanted it - they asked that I expand it with 10,000 more words… and then ordered two sequels. Yikes! Guess I know what I am writing and where I'll be spending time over the next couple of years! (Berlin. Istanbul. It's a tough life!).

PUBLICATION DATE: JANUARY 22, 2026.

Also, and unbeknownst to me, five years ago it was Book of the Month at Crime Time Magazine! The veteran crime reviewer Maxim Jakubowski wrote some lovely things including:
"A wonderful noir carnival of mayhem, unleashed political incorrectness including race, sex and religion, sparkling dialogue and a story in overdrive. A joyful, dark romp."

(This also made me smile: while One London Day was Book of the Month, another author  only made the Highly Recommended list: Mick Herron, with Bad Actors. I'll be waiting for the TV offer then!)

New Edition of SOMEDAY I'LL FIND YOU published on January 7th 2025 in Canada...

When Billy Coke steps onto the streets of London one December evening in 1940, he has no idea he is stepping to his fate. As Hitler’s bombers come close to burning the city down, Billy meets the woman who will change the course of his life: Ilse Magnusson, a musician from Norway, but also something more – a spy in training. Escaping the Blitz for three days, she and Billy drive, quarrel, conceal, reveal  and fall finally, fully, in love.

Now they must part, each to fight the war their own way. Billy, a Canadian-British Spitfire pilot, to duel with the Luftwaffe over North Africa and the Med. Ilse to return to her conquered country, ingratiate herself with the Nazi elite – which includes her beloved father – and send vital intelligence back to Britain.

They know that the odds of both of them surviving are poor. All they can hope is that the other does survive – and that someday they find each other again.

From decadent pre-war Berlin to the atrocity at Guernica, from dogfights over Sicily to an Oslo ground under the German jackboot, through small victories and bitter losses, this is the story of a man and a woman at war. A tale of causes and compromises, heroism, and betrayal. Of choices made, with consequences unforeseen. And finally how sometimes . . . love can give you a second chance.
Six weeks in the Globe and Mail's Top Ten for Canadian Fiction. Got some nice write ups too!

"A nuanced portrait, tenderly drawn, of two devoted characters who do their part in the fight against fascism, their abiding love for each other sustaining them." —The Toronto Star

"Unputdownable. . . . A beautifully written, riveting, deeply moving novel about a man and a woman at war. . . . Someday I’ll Find You has a very cinematic feel to it, I thought, the dialogue pitch-perfect and propulsive. . . . [Humphreys is] one of the best writers of historical fiction in the business." --The Humm

And if you need a little more persuading to click on the above: this FABULOUS REVIEW just in from amazing historical novelist Genevieve Graham ('On Isabella Street') in July 2025 Globe and Mail:

"From the opening page, I was in 1940, in Europe, in the middle of the war, breathing real history and living alongside characters I both adored and despised. I read it twice, then I read it out loud to my husband – something we do on vacations – and he demanded I read one particular chapter three times because it was so enthralling. And it wasn’t a short chapter! I know that if I were to pick up the book right now and start again, I would be just as engaged. It really should be made into a movie, except a movie could never do it justice.
“I am a romantic. I thrive on adventure and romance, but in order for a story to steal my heart, it has to be believable and deeply consequential. Someday I’ll Find You is loosely based on Chris’s parents – his mother was a spy and his father was a pilot – which made it even more meaningful. Chris’s gift, I think, is partially in how he can make his characters so courageous, and yet entirely vulnerable at the same time. Then there’s the impeccable research, the natural dialogue and his descriptive genius – just enough, never too much."

TWENTY YEARS! IMPOSSIBLE!
And yet it's true. My first novel was published in 2002.
I'd always thought I'd stop with one. You know, ticked that box in my life's journey. Now its 20 years later - and I've written 23 more novels!
Wild! But it is so wonderful to revisit my first child - commission new art from the amazing Robert Edmonds, do a new foreword... even correct some errors (who knew they didn't invent telescopes till 1608? Well, I didn't obviously!)
I hope I can welcome back some old readers for another journey - and some new ones for what is still, truly, the wildest of rides.

MURDER ON THE STREETS OF LONDON
July 30th 2018.
It’s the hottest Summer in fifty years and Joseph Severin, a respectable North London businessman, has taken on a lucrative side job. He’s doing the books, old school, (because these days the only trail you can’t trace is a paper one) for a rogue MI5 outfit, the Shadows, headed by clever, psychopathic Sebastien. When the game is rumbled, he sends their hitman, Mr Phipps, to kill Severin and get those books back.
For a simple man, Severin has a complicated life. He’s developed a sudden and wild passion for Lottie – aka ‘chaos on two legs’. Who is in love with Patrick, the next hot young black actor. Who is obsessed by Sonya, a gorgeous Russian escort. Who has one night to make the final money she needs for her daughter’s cancer operation. With MI6 onto them, and the books missing, the Shadows panic. And a day that begins with a hit in Finchley ends in violence and betrayal on the steamy night streets of Portobello.
ONE LONDON DAY is a daisy chain tale of characters and connections, a contemporary  London Noir. Like that genre’s 40’s origins, this story has its hood, its moll, its femme fatale, its fancy boy. Everyone is both protagonist and antagonist. No one gets out unharmed – and some don’t get out at all.
